Uttarakhand has been hit hard by recent heavy rains,
which have caused many landslides and flash floods. Heavy rains and subsequent
landslides in Himachal Pradesh have closed up a section of the
Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway. Meanwhile, on Sunday, heat and humidity are
in store for Delhi.
The Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh regions of northwest India are forecast to receive light to moderate rainfall from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Precipitation is also possible in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and some regions of northeast India.
Isolated, heavy rainfall is possible in Himachal
Pradesh and Uttarakhand between now and August 15, according to the IMD. On
those days, rain is forecast for parts of Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar
Pradesh, and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The rest of northwest India, meanwhile, will have much less precipitation during the coming week. On Sunday, mild to moderate reasonably widespread rainfall with occasional heavy rainfall is forecast for eastern India. In India, this pattern is forecast to take place over states like Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand.
Until August 15, rain of varying intensity is
expected across much of the northeast of India. Rainfall activity is predicted
to be low in the coming days in the coasts of Andhra Pradesh, Yanam,
Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe. It will be hot
and muggy, especially around the coast of Andhra Pradesh.
The widespread rainfall and its effects on several
states highlight the importance of constant monitoring and preparation for
reducing risks associated with floods and landslides.
