Sukhvinder Sukhu, a former state Cong leader, keeps his seat in Nadaun

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, a former head of the Himachal Pradesh Congress, defeated Vijay Kumar Agnihotri of the BJP by 3,363 votes on Thursday to win the Nadaun assembly seat in the Hamirpur district. The Election Commission reports that Sukhu received 36,142 votes while Agnihotri received 32,779 votes. There were six contestants involved.   As Sukhu, who is regarded as a potential candidate for chief minister, led the Congress election campaign committee, Nadaun became a hot seat during the assembly elections. This was also Agnihotri's fourth confrontation with him from the constituency.

BJP loses to Congress by "less than 1% margin in Himachal poll results," declares Prime Minister Modi

Following the announcement of the results for the Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted party members at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. ""I want to express my gratitude to the Election Commission for conducting fair elections. I'm not aware of any polling place that required re-voting.” I also want to thank the Himachal voters.
