Disturbing events unfolded as Delhi Police initiated a case on Sunday in response to an incident of vandalism believed to be linked to the proscribed group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ).
The incident saw unidentified culprits defacing the walls of several Metro stations in the National Capital with pro-Khalistan slogans, mere days ahead of the highly anticipated G20 Summit.
The affected stations, namely Udyog Nagar, Paschim Vihar, Nangloi, and Shivaji Park, became canvases for spray-painted slogans, prominently featuring "Khalistan Zindabad." To address this offence, the Delhi Police have taken legal action, invoking Sections 153a and 505, in addition to applying the Defacement Act.
The gravity of the situation escalated as SFJ purportedly released a video featuring its leader, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, discussing the graffiti incident. Pannun's remarks hinted at the group's intentions to disrupt the upcoming G20 Summit and target India's leadership. Authorities have responded by heightening security at all Metro stations.
A police spokesperson issued a stern warning, saying, "Stringent legal measures will be implemented against those who tamper with security arrangements before the summit. SFJ employs monetary incentives to attract individuals to execute their tasks. We anticipate arrests in the near future."
Law enforcement agencies are diligently reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits while simultaneously dispatching personnel to erase the graffiti from the defaced Metro station walls. This incident has raised concerns regarding the summit's security preparations, with authorities committed to preserving order and safeguarding the event's integrity.
