a spectacular revelation, Sri Lanka's cricket luminary Chamari
Athapaththu has been appointed the captain of the ICC Women's ODI Team of
the Year for 2023. Athapaththu's exceptional leadership propelled Sri Lanka to
their inaugural bilateral series triumph against the formidable White Ferns.
She also proved her mettle with the bat, amassing a staggering 415 runs at an
impressive average of 69.16 in eight ODIs throughout 2023. This included two
centuries and a trio of half-centuries, showcasing her batting prowess on the
global stage.
Phoebe Litchfield, the dynamic Australian, earned her spot as Athapaththu's opening partner in the dream team. Litchfield concluded 2023 as the second-highest run-scorer in ODIs, accumulating 485 runs in 13 matches at an impressive average of 53.88. Notably, she clinched four Player of the Match awards during the year, offering a commendable contribution to the Australian side.

ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year for 2023 further features the likes of New
Zealand's Amelia Kerr, who emerged as the leading run-scorer in ODIs with an
astounding tally of 541 runs in nine games. Kerr's stellar performances
included two centuries and three half-centuries, solidifying her status as a
formidable right-handed batter.
Australia's
Ellyse Perry and wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney fortify the middle order, with
Perry boasting five fifty-plus scores in 2023 and Mooney amassing an impressive
439 runs at a staggering average of 60. The lower order is power-packed with
the likes of Ash Gardner and Annabel Sutherland, both instrumental in
Australia's dominance throughout the year.
Completing the formidable XI are South Africa's allrounder Nadine de Klerk, New Zealand's fiery pacer Lea Tahuhu, and Bangladesh's left-arm spinner Nahida Akter. This diverse ensemble truly represents the pinnacle of women's ODI cricket in the years gone by.
