'If Someone Sees 'Shivling' in it, I Have No Objection', Delhi LG Responds to AAP Complaints

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Saturday remarked that the fountains placed along the route to the Delhi airport in preparation for the G20 summit are actually exquisite creations of art crafted by an artisan from Rajasthan.

He stressed that their design and purpose do not intend to depict a Shivling but if anyone interprets them that way they are free to do so and he has no issue with it.

Amidst the Aam Aadmi Party's complaints, Saxena pointed out that there should not be any unnecessary controversy surrounding the fountains. During an interview with ANI, he highlighted the uniqueness of India as a country where rivers and trees are revered. 

He emphasised that the current priority should be to provide the best possible experience for the delegates visiting Delhi for the G20 summit.

"Those are art pieces made by an artisan from Rajasthan, not 'Shivling'. Ours is a unique country where rivers and trees are worshipped. If someone sees 'shivling' in it ('Shivling-shaped' fountains), then it is very good; I have no objection to it, but there should be no controversy..," Saxena remarked. 

AAP MLAs on Friday lodged a formal complaint with the Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, expressing their grievance against LG VK Saxena and other government officials. 

They alleged that the installation of 18 Shivling fountains for decorative purposes near the Palam technical area in the national capital was offensive to the religious sentiments of Hindus. 

Prior to this, AAP leader Sanjay Singh had demanded an apology from the Bharatiya Janata Party, contending that the LG's decision amounted to an "insult" to the Shivling. 

This issue has gained attention in the lead-up to the G20 Summit, which is set to take place in the national capital on September 9 and 10.
