IFFI Goa 2023: New OTT Awards Shine Spotlight on Content Creators

The 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2023) is gearing up for a cinematic extravaganza in Goa from November 20 to November 28. This cinematic spectacle will feature a unique addition – a special category of awards dedicated to recognizing exceptional talent in the OTT content creation sphere.

The 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2023) is gearing up for a cinematic extravaganza in Goa from November 20 to November 28. This cinematic spectacle will feature a unique addition – a special category of awards dedicated to recognizing exceptional talent in the OTT content creation sphere.

Distinguished personalities from the film industry, both national and international, are set to grace this grand festival. Eminent cinema stars, renowned producers, and accomplished directors will converge to celebrate the magic of motion pictures. It's a star-studded rendezvous that promises to captivate audiences.

The grand opening of IFFI 2023 will be marked by the screening of the British film "Catching Dust." Anurag Thakur, the Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs, and Information and Broadcasting, highlighted the remarkable growth of the OTT sector, witnessing a 28 percent annual surge. In recognition of this burgeoning platform, the Ministry has initiated a new award to honor exceptional content creators on OTT platforms.

A total of 32 submissions spanning ten languages were received from 15 different OTT platforms, and the victor will be bestowed with a cash prize of Rs ten lakh. Anurag Thakur emphasized that the OTT industry has not only bolstered original content production in India but has also been a significant source of employment, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, a special screening of 45 films is on the festival's agenda, promising a cinematic feast for attendees. The international jury will have the arduous task of selecting the recipient of the prestigious Best Film Award. Meanwhile, Hollywood luminary Michael Douglas will be honored with the illustrious Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award, adding a dash of international flair to the event.

Anurag Thakur also highlighted the global prominence of the Indian media and entertainment industry, asserting its position as the fifth-largest market worldwide, with continual growth year after year. India's prolific film industry, producing the highest number of films globally, is a symbol of innovation and creativity, leaving an indelible mark across the world.
