In A Bid to Ensure Proper Safety during "Gaganyaan," ISRO Would Start Testing with "SCM" and "TV Posted on February 25, 2023 News By Akta Yadav 296 Views Gaganyaan:- The most ambitious project in the space sector of India, "Gaganyaan." received a vital boost after a series of delays in recent years. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will start a chain of tests before the launch of the actual mission, dated in 2024. ISRO has acquired the Stimulated Crew Module or the SCM from V.N. Sai Prakash, MD, Manjira Machine Builders, in Hyderabad. The SCM has the exact features and statistics that the original orbital module has, which will be used during the Gaganyaan mission. Loaded with a test vehicle (TV), ISRO will launch the SCM in space as a means to test the abortion and safety of the crew. The Gaganyaan mission would be a pioneering event in the history of Indian space if completed. The operation is focused on launching a space vehicle with 3 members to an orbit of 400 km for a span of 3 days and bringing them back to earth safely. As per the official ISRO website, the Human rated LMV3 or the HLMV3 will launch the orbital module in space during the Gaganyaan mission. "Gaganyaan Dr. S Unnikrishnan Nair, Director of ISRO's Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), understands the economic and life cost of launching the project straight without any advanced tests. He said, "The actual crew module and the full-fledged GSLV Mk3 rocket are very expensive, so they cannot be used for conducting multiple abort tests. To perform low-cost and highly-efficient testing, we have developed the Simulated Crew Module and a mini liquid-fuelled rocket known as Test Vehicle (based on a single L40 Booster of the GSLV Mk2 rocket)." He also added, "Our goal is to perform abort tests and check all systems at different stages- at the launchpad, when the rocket is flying and transitioning from subsonic to supersonic when the rocket is undergoing maximum dynamic pressure." From the standstill in astronaut training to Covid-19, there are a lot of factors contributing to the delay of the Gaganyaan mission. The mission is planned into different sections, with multiple tests and 2 unmanned missions before the actual manned flight. "Gaganyaan If everything goes well, India will join an elite list of countries viz. the US, Russia, and China, to achieve such a milestone.
