Amidst the serene backdrop of Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, a devastating incident unfolded as a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan fell victim to an IED blast, orchestrated by Naxalites on a patrol mission. The tragic episode marks the second casualty in as many days in the region.

According to a senior police official, the unfortunate incident occurred near Sadaktola village under Partapur police station limits. The team, comprising both BSF and district police force members, was on a routine patrol when the explosion tore through the area, claiming the life of BSF Head Constable Akhilesh Rai (45), hailing from Uttar Pradesh.

Rai sustained severe injuries in the blast and was promptly given initial medical attention before being transferred to Pakhanjur for further treatment. Despite the efforts, he couldn't survive the critical injuries, succumbing to the grave impact of the blast, the official confirmed.

The authorities have swiftly launched a comprehensive search operation in the region. The joint team, comprised of the BSF, District Reserve Guard, and the district police force, is rigorously scouring the area for any leads or potential threats left behind by the attackers.

This tragic incident comes merely a day after a Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) jawan lost his life, and another suffered injuries in a similar attack by Naxalites in the Narayanpur district. The series of attacks has heightened concerns over the safety and security of security forces in the region amid the persistent threats posed by Naxalite groups.

The repeated assaults underscore the volatile situation prevailing in parts of Chhattisgarh, casting a shadow over the efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region. The authorities are actively engaged in addressing the escalating security concerns while mourning the loss of brave personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
