PAN card holders facing challenges during the PAN-Aadhaar linking process, the Income Tax Department has stepped in with additional support. The deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar concluded yesterday, causing a significant surge in users attempting to complete the process.

While the tax department has not extended the deadline, it has issued instructions through a tweet to assist those encountering difficulties with payments and challan downloads.

The Income Tax Department acknowledged the reported instances where PAN holders encountered problems in downloading the challan after making the payment for Aadhaar-PAN linking.

To address these concerns, the department was guided to check the status of challan payment under the 'e-pay tax' tab on the portal after login. If the payment is successful, the PAN holder can proceed with linking their PAN with Aadhaar.

To streamline the process, the department emphasized that there is no need to download the challan receipt separately for linking PAN with Aadhaar. As soon as the payment is completed successfully, an email containing an attached copy of the challan is automatically sent to the PAN holder.

For cases where the fee payment and consent for linking were received but linking has not been done until June 30, 2023, the Income Tax Department assured that such cases would be duly considered.

To further assist individuals facing issues, the department advised them to check their registered email for a copy of the challan. If additional assistance is required, individuals can reach out to the department by sharing their details, including PAN and mobile number, via email at orm@cpc.incometax.gov.in. The department's team will then get in touch to provide the necessary support.

The move comes after widespread speculation that the Income Tax Department might extend the deadline due to the heavy rush on the system, but the deadline remained unchanged. Instead, the department proactively took measures to ease the process for PAN holders, ensuring a smoother experience during the PAN-Aadhaar linking exercise.
