Team India readies itself for an impending clash against Afghanistan, marking the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the T20I format after their absence since the 2022 T20 World Cup. Sharma, an eminent figure in Indian cricket, is set to helm the team, aiming to surpass Kohli's T20I run record.

Notably, this series serves as India's final stint before the T20 World Cup in June, adding an air of significance to the players' return. With Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav sidelined due to injuries, the selectors have entrusted Sharma with the captaincy reins once more.

Sharma's leadership prowess is well-established, having captained 51 T20Is, accumulating 1527 runs at an impressive average of 32.49. His tally includes two centuries and 10 half-centuries, placing him on the cusp of a significant milestone, just 44 runs away from surpassing Kohli's captaincy run record.

Kohli's legacy as India's former T20I skipper boasts 1570 runs in 46 innings, with 13 half-centuries and an unbeaten 94 as his highest score. Sharma's potential ascent beyond Kohli not only signifies a personal achievement but also a substantial feat in the context of Indian cricket.

Reflecting on India's T20I captaincy, Sharma, Kohli, and MS Dhoni have predominantly helmed the team. Dhoni, though, stands at the 12th position among T20I captains across nations, amassing 1112 runs in 62 innings.

As the anticipation builds for the series against Afghanistan, Sharma's pursuit of surpassing Kohli's T20I captaincy record adds a compelling narrative to India's cricketing landscape, promising an exciting showdown on the field.
