India continues to solidify its role as a key partner for the Maldives, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a series of collaborative projects following a bilateral meeting with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu in New Delhi. President Muizzu, who is on a five-day official visit to India, was received with a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.

This visit, at the invitation of President Droupadi Murmu, highlights the Maldives' importance in India’s “Neighbourhood First Policy” and Prime Minister Modi’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative. The Maldives, a key maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region, plays a crucial role in India's strategic regional vision.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Modi emphasized India's commitment to supporting the Maldives, noting that the country has always been a first responder for its island neighbor. The two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation across sectors and deepening people-to-people ties, which have been a cornerstone of India-Maldives relations.

President Muizzu will also visit Mumbai and Bengaluru to participate in business events, further fostering economic connections. His visit follows the recent tour of the Indian External Affairs Minister to the Maldives, reaffirming the momentum of robust bilateral relations.
