Iran Orders 3 More Executions:-
Unrest in Iran: The “Mahsa Amini” Protests The origin of the massive protests in Iran can be traced back to the death of Mahsa Amini, a girl of 22 years who was arrested by the police of Iran for not being dressed in a proper hijab according to the Islamic mandate. Amini succumbed to death under the custody of the Iran police and ever since then, the protests began on 16th of September 2022. Current Developments On 9th of January 2023, a large crowd had gathered on hearing the news of the prosecution of two Iranian citizens, Mohammad Ghobadlou and Mohamad Broghani. Three more people from the protesting crowd were then arrested and have been sentenced to death despite the ongoing international criticism. Iran has lately been a victim of widespread international criticism owing to its actions of prosecuting several protestors. Many countries such as the United States, Australia and the European nations have come forward to show their support towards the masses of Iran. A government official from the United States, Mr. Ned Price stated, “These executions are, in our estimation at least, a key component of Iranian authorities’ brutal effort – their brutal effort to suppress peaceful protests” Despite the international criticism, Iran has continued to execute many protesters commonly on the pretext of attacking security officials deployed to handle the protesting crowd. Volker Turk, the United Nations Chief of Human Rights said, “The weaponization of criminal procedures to punish people for exercising their basic rights -- such as those participating in or organizing demonstrations -- amounts to state sanctioned killing”.
