Mainak Pal, a 44-year-old Philosophy professor from Kolkata's Jadavpur University, was found dead in a hotel room in Lalkuan, Uttarakhand, with deep cuts on his hands and throat slit. Pal, who had gone on a trip with friends, had decided to return to Kolkata alone, reportedly expressing a desire to be with his family.

When Pal’s family could not reach him by phone on Friday evening, they alerted the hotel staff, who discovered his body in the bathroom with blood splattered on the floor. Uttarakhand police suspect suicide, but investigations are ongoing.
