US NSA Jake Sullivan arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a two days visit where he met NSA of India Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.  These sessions were essentially meant to strengthen the US-India bilateral relations and cover bilateral, multilateral and global subjects.

This is the first time that a senior US official is visiting India after the return of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government to power for the third term.  The trip is happening concurrently with the second meeting of the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies iCET which seeks to build cooperation in areas like semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, defense technology, space, and higher-speed telecommunications between the two countries.

Later on, Jaishankar has said that he has talked to Sullivan that the India-U.  S. strategic partnership will, besides, strengthen and advance even further under Modi government’s new term.  Jaishankar was happy to host the reception to Sullivan who reached New Delhi in early morning, both the foreign ministers engaged in detailed discussion on different facets of bilateral, regional and global interests.

Other activities that are set to take place during the two-day visit of Sullivan are Sullivan’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi who will be accompanied by other US top officials and leaders from the American industry.  iCET has been initiated by Modi in collaboration with the President of the United States Joe Biden in May, 2022; The main idea of the iCET initiative has been developed by Doval and Sullivan to deliberate on the important issues of cooperation in the sphere of various new and emerging technologies.

Before that, during the call by President Biden to Prime Minister Modi after the latter’s election victory, the meeting of the U. S. National Security Adviser was also discussed.  Both leaders stressed the need to deepen and extend the scope of the U.  S.  -India Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership and strengthen their cooperation with reference to the shared vision of the Indo-Pacific region that is free, open, and prosperous.

The meetings which Sullivan have had with the chiefs of the key Indian ministries indicate that the relations between the USA and India are gradually assuming a more strategic dimension, and the cooperation in the sphere of security and technology.  The two countries are the largest democracies in the world and have been attempting to improve their bilateral relationship in all spheres of activity, such as defense, commerce, and security.

The expectations are that the outcomes of the latest iCET meeting and the discussions Sullivan had with the leaders of India will introduce even more dynamics in the bilateral relations and create opportunities for cooperation in strategic and emerging technologies.
