Renowned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart Lal Krishna Advani is set to be honored with India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, according to an announcement by Prime Minister Modi on Saturday. The decision comes as a mark of recognition for Advani's exceptional and distinguished service to the nation, spanning a career that started at the grassroots level and ascended to the role of Deputy Prime Minister.

Born on November 8, 1927, the 96-year-old leader played a pivotal role in the BJP's rise from oblivion to prominence. A founding member of the party, Advani served as the 7th Deputy Prime Minister of India from 2002 to 2004, holding the record for the longest-serving Minister of Home Affairs from 1998 to 2004. His leadership extended to being the longest-serving Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Following the government's announcement, Advani, accompanied by his daughter Pratibha, expressed his gratitude. In a statement, he humbly accepted the Bharat Ratna, acknowledging it not just as a personal honor but as a recognition of the ideals and principles he devoted his life to serving. Pratibha Advani shared that her father was overwhelmed, displaying tears of joy, emphasizing his dedication to the nation.
