Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in relation to a money laundering case concerning the excise policy. She was already in the Tihar jail in Delhi, under judicial custody.

Recently, Kavitha was questioned by agents of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the prison, following approval from a single judge. Rumour has it that she was questioned by the investigative agency about WhatsApp communications discovered on a co-defendant's phone and paperwork related to a land acquisition. These documents demonstrated how kickbacks influenced the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) ability to modify excise laws.

In connection with the money laundering case, a Delhi court on Tuesday extended the defendant's judicial custody for an additional fourteen days.

Furthermore, the judge dismissed her request for temporary release on Monday, citing ample evidence to substantiate the alleged felony's conviction as well as her "deliberate" acts in destroying evidence.

According to Judge Kaveri Baweja's order, there is substantial evidence that she participated in the alleged acts, purposefully destroyed evidence, and attempted to influence witnesses.
