In a significant disclosure, former Chief Minister Kamal
Nath, who currently serves as the Congress state president, filed his
nomination for the Chhindwara Assembly seat. This political move came after he
visited a Ram Temple in the district, seeking divine blessings.
According to the official poll affidavit submitted by
Kamal Nath, he and his spouse, Alka, jointly possess assets, both movable and
immovable, with a staggering total value of over INR 134 crore. Kamal Nath's
individual assets amount to INR 71.58 crore, while Alka holds assets valued at
approximately INR 62.52 crore.
Delving into the specifics disclosed in the affidavit,
Kamal Nath's movable assets are estimated at INR 7.13 crore, with his wife,
Alka, owning movable assets worth INR 45.95 crore. Additionally, their
immovable property is valued at INR 64.45 crore for Kamal Nath and INR 16.56
crore for Alka.
The former Chief Minister also possesses two Ambassador
cars and a Safari valued at roughly 21 lakhs. Notably, Kamal Nath's personal
jewelry collection includes 300 grams of gold jewelry, amounting to over INR 16
lakh, while Alka boasts an impressive collection featuring 1039 grams of gold
and 2248 carats of diamond and stone jewelry, with an astonishing worth of INR
3.33 crore.
In the forthcoming election, the ruling Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) has nominated Bunty Sahu as their candidate to challenge Kamal
Nath. In the 2019 by-election for the Chhindwara assembly constituency, Kamal
Nath secured victory against Sahu with a substantial margin of over 25,000
votes.
After filing his nomination papers, Kamal Nath, who is leading the Congress party in the centrally-located state, expressed optimism that the people of Madhya Pradesh and Chhindwara would shower their blessings upon the Congress.

As part of his election campaign, Nath had previously
organized sermons conducted by two prominent Hindu preachers, Pandit Dhirendra
Shastri and Pandit Pradeep Mishra. Pandit Shastri, an advocate for Hindu
Rashtra, commended Kamal Nath for his role in erecting a Hanuman temple in
Chhindwara, standing at an impressive height of more than 102 feet.
Having represented the Chhindwara Lok Sabha constituency
for eight consecutive terms, Kamal Nath's foray into assembly elections
occurred after Congress MLA Deepak Saxena's resignation from Chhindwara,
allowing Nath to contest in the polls following his appointment as Chief
Minister in 2018.
The government led by Kamal Nath, formed in December 2018, had a relatively short-lived existence, collapsing in March 2020 when several MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia defected from the Congress and joined the BJP.
