In a remarkable turn of fortune, Karachi fisherman Haji Baloch hit the jackpot by auctioning a catch of the rare and highly coveted "golden fish" from the Arabian Sea. The windfall came to fruition on Friday morning at the Karachi harbor, where the entire haul, rich in medicinal properties, fetched an astounding 70 million rupees.
Haji
Baloch, residing in the modest Ibrahim Hyderi fishing village, led his crew in
capturing the prized Sowa fish, known for its thread-like substance with potent
healing capabilities. This substance, extracted from the fish's belly, holds
medicinal properties and is even utilized in surgical procedures. In the local
dialect, one Sowa fish can command a staggering 7 million rupees in auctions, marking
it as an exceptionally valuable catch.
The significance of the Sowa fish goes beyond its monetary value, as it is sought after not only for its rarity and medicinal properties but also for its cultural and traditional importance. Weighing between 20 to 40 kilograms and reaching up to 1.5 meters in length, the golden fish is particularly in demand in East Asian countries and plays a vital role in local cuisines and traditional medicines.

Narrating
the serendipitous discovery, Haji Baloch shared, "We were fishing in the
open sea of Karachi when we came across this huge cache of golden fish, and it
was a windfall for us." Expressing his gratitude, he affirmed his
intention to share the newfound wealth with his crew of seven, acknowledging
their collective effort in this unexpected bounty.
The Sowa fish's appearance near the coast is limited to its breeding season, adding an element of rarity to this extraordinary find. The overnight millionaire Haji Baloch now stands as a testament to the unpredictable fortunes that the sea can bestow upon those who make their livelihoods from its depths.
