Indian cricket gears up for the South Africa tour, yet star players Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja face delays in joining the squad. Despite the team's arrival in Durban, these players reportedly missed their flight, expected to join before the first T20I match on December 10.

Gill and Jadeja, who rested after the ICC World Cup 2023, are pivotal in the upcoming series but are currently unavailable due to personal commitments. Cricbuzz reports Jadeja's Europe tour and Gill's holiday in the UK as reasons for their delayed arrivals. Both are anticipated to directly join the team in Durban and likely play in the opening game at Kingsmead.

In a parallel scenario, Deepak Chahar, after leaving the Australia T20I series due to a family emergency, is anticipated to join the T20I and ODI squads for South Africa on time.

All three players, Gill, Jadeja, and Chahar, have sought permission from the BCCI for their delayed arrivals. Acknowledging the multiple squads under different captains, the BCCI plans to send selectors SS Das and Salil Ankola to manage the South Africa tour effectively.

The Indian team schedules its initial practice session on Friday at Kingsmead ahead of the T20I series starting on December 10. KL Rahul will lead the ODIs from December 17, while the Test series, starting on Boxing Day at Centurion, will see the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah.
