Authorities are investigating the incident while survivors receive treatment. A case has been registered under negligence and public endangerment laws.
The driver of an LPG tanker involved in a devastating explosion on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway has miraculously survived the incident that claimed 13 lives and left 41 others injured. The explosion, triggered by a crash between the LPG tanker and a container truck, engulfed over 30 vehicles in flames.
Jaiveer, the 40-year-old tanker driver and a resident of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, managed to escape unharmed. According to police reports, Jaiveer sensed the danger immediately after the collision, noticing that the tanker’s nozzle had been damaged and was leaking gas. Realizing the risk of ignition from nearby vehicles, he fled the scene before the fire erupted.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Amit Kumar stated that Jaiveer’s quick thinking potentially saved his life. "He cannot be immediately blamed for the incident. The collision was initiated by the container truck. After noticing the broken nozzle, Jaiveer anticipated the explosion and ran to safety," said Kumar.
The driver of the container truck, however, did not survive the blast. Nine other drivers at the scene managed to flee, preventing further casualties.
Currently, 23 victims are being treated at Sawai Man Singh Hospital, while a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been tasked with probing the accident. A case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash and negligent driving, causing death by negligence, and endangering public safety.
