Ajit Pawar’s NCP achieved a significant electoral win in Maharashtra, dominating Sharad Pawar’s faction and strengthening its position within the BJP-led Mahayuti government. This marks a setback for Sharad Pawar, despite his faction's higher vote share. The election results reflect a realignment of political power in Maharashtra, consolidating the ruling alliance’s dominance.
Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured a decisive victory over Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP) in the Maharashtra assembly elections, claiming 41 seats compared to the latter's 10. This marks a significant political triumph for Ajit Pawar, whose rebellion last year split the NCP and aligned him with the BJP-led Mahayuti government as deputy chief minister.
In a key contest, Ajit Pawar defeated his nephew Yugendra Pawar, endorsed by the 83-year-old Sharad Pawar, by a margin of over 1 lakh votes. Ajit’s faction also outperformed Sharad's in several prominent constituencies, including Aheri, Yeola, and Pimpri. Leaders like Chhagan Bhujbal, Aditi Tatkare, and Nawab Malik’s daughter Sana Malik emerged victorious against NCP(SP) candidates in high-profile contests.
Despite securing more votes (11.28%) than Ajit Pawar’s faction (9.01%), Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP) struggled to convert its support into seats. The ruling BJP-Shiv Sena-Mahayuti alliance, to which Ajit Pawar’s faction belongs, won a commanding 235 seats in total.
