West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the Central government of engaging in a deliberate misinformation campaign to impede the release of funds allocated under the MGNREGA scheme.

Banerjee expressed her concerns on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, "I detect a deliberate disinformation campaign regarding Central release of funds in MGNREGA."

She emphasized that this misinformation is being propagated to mislead the public, create confusion, and tarnish the state government's reputation. Banerjee added, "We need, deserve, and are entitled to our rightful share. We continue to be unfairly deprived, despite the dissemination of false information here and there."

In response to the delayed fund clearance, the Chief Minister extended the deadline by three weeks, pushing it to November 23 for the Centre to settle the outstanding dues.

The All India Trinamool Congress, chaired by Mamata Banerjee, announced a meeting scheduled for November 16, 2023, at Netaji Indoor Stadium. However, due to the World Cup semi-final taking place on the same day, the meeting has been rescheduled to November 23, 2023, at the same venue.

Banerjee expressed her disappointment that despite the Trinamool Congress' vigorous efforts, the central government has not released any funds. She alleged that misinformation is being deliberately spread to perplex the public. She stated, "I detect a deliberate disinformation campaign regarding the Central release of funds in MGNREGA. Despite our vigorous movements and submission of detailed factual records and accounts, the Centre has been dragging its feet and has not released any withheld fund whatsoever at all."

Banerjee strongly condemned the spreading of misinformation, characterizing it as "shameful" on the part of the central government.

This ongoing dispute over the release of MGNREGA funds highlights the need for transparency and efficient fund allocation to support crucial welfare programs, ultimately impacting the livelihoods of countless individuals in West Bengal and other states.
