This year, heavy amounts of rain is taking a toll on many states of India. Maharashtra is one of the most affected States by rain this year.
Landslide at Midnight in Raigad, Maharashtra
The incident happened at midnight on 20 July 2023. A massive landslide swiped off the houses of innumerous families. Till now it has been reported that 4 people have lost their lives while more than 30 families are still trapped in the debris. The location where the landslide occurred had 40 houses belonging to a tribal community .
Action Taken by Authorities
The District Collector of Raigad, Yogesh Mhase said, “Reaching the location of the landslide requires a 2 hour climb which poses a significant challenge for us.” The Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had also given a call to various officers around midnight regarding the landslide. All hospitals in Navi Mumbai and Panvel have been given prior notification to give immediate medical care to the victims of the landslide.
2 rescue teams belonging to the NDRF with 25 members in each team have been dispatched to the site and ambulances have also reached the spot. The medical aid and shelter arrangements are complete.
