Farmers began a march from Noida to Delhi, causing massive traffic jams and prompting police barricades. The protest demands a legal guarantee on MSP, farm loan waivers, and justice for Lakhimpur Kheri victims, with more participants expected to join in the coming days.

Traffic snarls gripped key routes between Noida and Delhi today as farmers began their march to the capital, demanding a legal guarantee on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. Led by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), the first group of protesters gathered at the Maha Maya flyover in Noida, causing disruptions and prompting heavy police barricading.

The protest is part of a broader movement under the banners of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM). Farmers have been stationed at border points between Punjab and Haryana since February, after their earlier attempts to march to Delhi were blocked.

Police issued travel advisories, urging commuters to avoid affected routes. Photographs from the Chilla border showed massive traffic jams as commuters struggled amid heightened security.

The farmers' demands include a legal MSP guarantee, farm loan waivers, pension schemes for farmers and laborers, and withdrawal of cases related to previous protests. They also seek justice for victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence and compensation for families of farmers who lost their lives during earlier agitations.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher criticized the government for its lack of dialogue since February. Despite a meeting with Union ministers earlier this year, the farmers rejected the government’s proposals, insisting on comprehensive reforms.

The protest is expected to intensify as more farmers from across the country join in the coming days, with marches continuing daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
