Microsoft, the American tech giant, has begun firing employees in the United States who have not met the company's performance standards. The layoffs, reported by Business Insider, are part of an ongoing effort to streamline its workforce. Employees terminated for underperformance received letters stating that their job duties were immediately ceased, and access to Microsoft systems, accounts, and buildings was revoked.

Medical and healthcare benefits were also discontinued immediately, while three employees reportedly did not receive severance pay. The termination letters highlighted that the performance of the employees had not met the minimum expectations for their respective positions.

This move follows a performance evaluation of Microsoft staff up to level 80, one of the highest levels within the company, conducted over the past few months. Despite these layoffs, Microsoft has stated that the overall workforce size may not be significantly affected, as positions will be backfilled. Additionally, the company has been making cuts across various departments, including security, sales, experiences and devices, and gaming.
