The IMD has predicted that monsoon rains will begin in Delhi NCR over the weekend with rains expected. From the weather prediction which was available at the time of preparation of this paper, Delhi is expected to face heavy rain on June 29 & 30.

The IMD said on Thursday that the heatwaves have pulled out from most parts of the country and that the Southwest Monsoon has advanced further. The weather agency has stated that monsoon has commenced in Punjab and is expected to extend to the rest of the North and Northwest India in the next two to three days.

The IMD also mentioned that “Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat State, some more parts of Rajasthan, most parts of Madhya Pradesh, some more parts of West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, some parts of East Uttar Pradesh, most parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad”.

According to the forecasts for the next 24 hours, the temperature in Northwest India might decrease by 3-5°C. This cooling trend is good especially after the recent heat like conditions as have been experienced in the region.

New Delhi, which was wet with heavy shower on Thursday morning, will continue to receive rains over the weekend. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast that there will be isolated to scattered heavy rainfall in some of the North Indian states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana in the next five days.

The IMD has also put out the red and orange warnings for extremely heavy rain in Coastal Karnataka today and very heavy rain in Konkan, Goa, Saurashtra, and Kutch in the coming days.

The people of the region would expect monsoon rain to reduce heat and increase the availability of water in the region. The people of Delhi NCR are warned to expect rain and traffic interferences over the coming weekend.
