Mridul Kumar, an officer of the 1992 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), has been selected to serve as the next Ambassador of India to Liechtenstein, said an official statement on August 26.
Kumar is presently serving as India's Ambassador to Switzerland.
Furthermore, he has been simultaneously designated as the next Ambassador of India to Liechtenstein, as detailed in the MEA's official announcement.
According to the MEA statement, he is anticipated to assume his new role in the near future. He is set to take up residence in Berne.
In 1993, India and the Principality of Liechtenstein established diplomatic ties. The Ambassador of India to Switzerland, based in Berne, is granted dual accreditation as the Ambassador of India to the Principality of Liechtenstein.
Although Liechtenstein is a small country, it holds significance due to its membership in the United Nations and various other international organisations.
Additionally, its association with the European Economic Area and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), comprising Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland, adds to its importance.
Liechtenstein is one of the four members of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). India has initiated negotiations for a bilateral Trade and Investment Agreement (TIA) with EFTA.
