Mukhtar Ansari, a gangster-politician, received a five-and-a-half-year jail term and a fine of Rs 10,000 from a Varanasi court for threatening a coal trader's family. He faced charges after a coal businessman's brother was threatened following a kidnapping in 1997.
In
a significant verdict from the MP/MLA court in Varanasi, Mukhtar Ansari, the
infamous gangster-politician, faced the gavel, receiving a sentence of five and
a half years in prison. This ruling also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 upon
Ansari due to his involvement in threatening the family associated with coal
businessman Nand Kishore Rungta.
The
legal proceedings unfolded within the Additional Chief Judicial
Magistrate/MP-MLA court's jurisdiction. The verdict from the Special Magistrate
MLA Court found Ansari guilty under Section 506 Part 2. Consequently, he was
handed a substantial term of imprisonment amounting to five years and six
months, coupled with the specified fine.
The
case revolved around Mukhtar Ansari's alleged threat to Mahavir Prasad Rungta,
the brother of the abducted coal businessman. Following the kidnapping incident
involving Nand Kishore Rungta, the victim's family encountered menacing bomb
threats. Mahavir Prasad Rungta, reacting to this, lodged a formal complaint at
the Bhelupur police station on November 5, 1997. Subsequently, an investigation
ensued, leading the police to file a charge sheet against Mukhtar Ansari for
his purported involvement in the threat case during the same timeframe.
The case's roots trace back to January 22, 1997, when Ataur Rahman Babu, Mukhtar's brother-in-law and a coal businessman, visited Nand Kishore Rungta's office in Varanasi. Under deceitful pretenses of sharing documents related to the coal business, Ataur persuaded Nand Kishore to accompany him, subsequently abducting him after administering intoxicants in tea. Ansari allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore for Rungta's release.

This
recent sentencing adds to Ansari's legal woes, as he was previously handed a
ten-year jail term in October by the Ghazipur MP/MLA court in Uttar Pradesh for
his involvement in various criminal cases. These included charges related to
murder and conspiracy, with fines imposed under the Gangster Act.
Mukhtar
Ansari's criminal history is vast, with multiple cases against him, ranging
from murder to other felonies. Law enforcement agencies have taken action
against his illegal properties, confiscating assets worth over Rs 300 crore
under the Gangster Act. Notably, properties valued at Rs 284.77 lakh were
demolished, freeing these illegal possessions from Ansari and his associates.
The
Uttar Pradesh Police have recorded a total of 65 cases against Mukhtar Ansari,
securing seven convictions during the tenure of the Yogi government.
