In a significant move to curb the activities of the banned organization Popular Front of India (PFI), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated a series of nationwide raids. This operation unfolded in several states, including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Delhi.

The NIA's actions commenced with an early morning visit to the residence of Abdul Wahid Shaikh in Mumbai's Vikhroli area. Mr. Shaikh had previously faced allegations related to the 2006 railway blast case, but the trial court had ultimately acquitted him of all charges. The NIA team arrived at his house at 5 a.m., marking the beginning of a broader nationwide crackdown.

Simultaneously, NIA teams were dispatched to Tonk, Kota, and Gangapur in Rajasthan, where late-night raids were conducted. Multiple suspects were apprehended as part of these operations. In a synchronized move, NIA partnered with local law enforcement to conduct searches in Old Delhi's Ballimaran, an area under the jurisdiction of the Hauz Qazi police station.

This latest wave of raids by the NIA follows previous enforcement efforts. In September, the Enforcement Directorate executed searches in the residences of former PFI workers across four districts in Kerala, namely Thrissur, Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Wayanad. Prior to that, in August, the NIA had targeted the homes of several PFI operatives in Malappuram. These raids were carried out at the residences of Thayyil Hamza in Vengara, Kalathiparambil Yahuti in Tirur, Haneefa in Tanur, and Rangattur Padikkaparambil Jaffer – all of whom had affiliations with the banned PFI.

Notably, the NIA's operations are not limited to specific regions, as they extend to multiple areas, including Madurai, within the PFI case. This widespread crackdown underscores the government's determination to dismantle the activities of the Popular Front of India, an organization deemed detrimental to national security and peace.

As the NIA intensifies its efforts against the PFI, these nationwide raids are seen as a significant step toward curbing the influence and operations of this banned organization. The suspects apprehended during these operations will likely undergo thorough investigations, further strengthening the case against the PFI.
