PM Modi in Lok Sabha

The NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emerged triumphant as the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition was defeated in a resounding voice vote during a heated session in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The three-day-long debate saw intense clashes between the ruling coalition and the Opposition on several pressing matters, including the Manipur violence. The motion, initiated by the Opposition on July 26 and presided over by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, marked the second instance of Prime Minister Modi facing such a challenge during his tenure.

Prime Minister Modi used the platform to criticize the Congress party, asserting that the Indian populace had lost confidence in their leadership. He pointed out historical instances where Congress had won elections in various states, only to be rejected by the people in subsequent years. "In Tamil Nadu, they won in 1962 and since then, the people have been saying 'No Congress'. Similarly, in West Bengal, they won in 1972, yet the people of the state rejected them. The same trend is evident in UP, Bihar, and Gujarat, where their victories in 1985 have not translated into lasting support," stated the PM during his rebuttal.

With the NDA holding a robust majority in the Lower House, comprising 331 MPs, of which the BJP accounts for 303, the combined strength of the Opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A stood at 144. Additionally, there are 70 MPs from unaligned parties.

The no-confidence motion's defeat reaffirms the NDA's dominance in the Lok Sabha and signals a continued stability for the government. As the Modi administration successfully navigated this challenge, it underscores their ability to maintain parliamentary support despite the fierce political climate.
