A severe cold wave grips northern India, with Delhi’s temperature dropping to 6.4°C and Himachal’s Tabo plunging to -13.6°C. Foggy conditions and poor air quality persist, while the IMD predicts rain and snowfall in Himachal, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Freezing temperatures continue to affect Jammu and Kashmir.
A severe cold wave continues to grip northern India, with temperatures in Delhi dropping to 6.4°C on Thursday morning, marking a significant decline from earlier days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded this temperature at 5:30 am, predicting a further drop to 5°C later in the day.
Delhi experienced foggy conditions, reducing visibility in several parts of the city and its neighboring areas, including Noida and Ghaziabad. Despite a sunny afternoon on Wednesday, the morning’s air quality remained in the "poor" category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 287.
Himachal Pradesh is also witnessing harsh weather, with temperatures in tribal regions like Tabo plunging to -13.6°C. The IMD issued a yellow warning for districts such as Una, Kangra, and Mandi, forecasting snowfall in mid and high-altitude regions over the weekend.
In Jammu and Kashmir, temperatures in Srinagar dropped to -1°C, while Gulmarg, a popular ski destination, recorded a chilling -9.8°C. The valley, which had seen some relief earlier, is now under freezing conditions once again.
A western disturbance is expected to bring rain and snow across parts of northwest India later this week, with cold wave conditions persisting in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan through Friday and Saturday.
