The Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) on Tuesday carried out a protest march in Geneva, Switzerland, where they harshly blamed the Pakistan Army for funding terrorists and carrying out atrocities against the local population.
As per reports, Pashtuns from Afghanistan and Pakistan participated in the rally, which began at Lake Geneva and ended at Broken Chair in front of the United Nations building.
Protesters yelled at the Pakistan Army, claiming it was aiding terrorist organizations like the Pakistani Taliban, which were killing Pashtuns.
The reports claimed that refugees from Afghanistan have been accused of being a prime target of Pakistani crimes.
Concerned about the rise in terrorism and the abuse of human rights, Pashtun human rights activist Fazal-ur-Rehman Afridi spoke out.
“There have been extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, and torture by the Pakistani military,” he said.
He further said it goes against the UN Convention Against Torture to utilise torture in this way.
The protesters also claimed that members of the Pakistani Army had kidnapped, tortured, and even killed Pashtun political activists.
Specifically targeting the Pashtun people, PTM Europe Coordinator Malik Bazai blamed the Pakistani military for promoting panic and dread.
As a result of terrorist attacks, about 70,000 Pashtuns have lost their lives and an estimated 200,000 Pashtun homes have been destroyed.
Hasham Utmankhil, speaking on behalf of PTM, France, gave a speech promoting calm and reiterating the fact that Pashtuns are not terrorists.
