A two day long Swasthya Chintan Shivir of the Union Health Ministry was organized which  concluded on Saturday in Dehradun. The conclave witnessed participation of Chief Minister, Deputy CMs, and ministers of various state ministries as well as other Union Ministers. Health ministers from various states also participated in the concluding session. VK Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, Rajesh Bhushan, Union Health Secretary and other senior officials were also present during the conclave.

 

Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya addressed the attendees at the end of the concluding session. Here are some key takeaways from the two day conclave:

1. PC-PNDT:

In order to promote gender equality, the minister requested that the states make recommendations for modifications to the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act.

 

The PC-PNDT Act seeks to outlaw prenatal diagnostic tests for determining the sex of the fetus that could result in female foeticide.

 

2. TB Free India:

He mentioned that 'lok bhagidari' (People's participation) is the key to eliminate Tuberculosis from the Nation and make it TB free.

 

3. Coverage of all beneficiaries:

Mandaviya stated the need to ensure comprehensive and saturation coverage of all health schemes so that all the eligible beneficiaries are included.

4. Implementation:

He urged the participants to implement the learnings of the conclave in their respective areas. He requested them to saturate the nation with Ayushman Bharat cards, and Ayushman Bharat Health Account IDs; and work towards eliminating TB, leprosy, Kalaazar, and malaria from the country.

 

5. Vision document:

The Minister suggested making a vision document for 25 years which would act as a roadmap to guide efforts towards providing best healthcare to the citizens.

 

The Chintan Shivir witnessed open dialogue across states and might lead to strong outcomes in the country's healthcare provision.
