President Murmu Advocates All-India Judicial Service for Emerging Judicial Talents

President Droupadi Murmu suggested an All-India Judicial Service to nurture and select young talents across various backgrounds in the judiciary during the Constitution Day celebrations at the Supreme Court. Emphasizing diversity in the judiciary, she highlighted the need for a merit-based, transparent selection process.

President Droupadi Murmu, during the Constitution Day celebrations at the Supreme Court, proposed the establishment of an All-India Judicial Service to foster and select young talents across diverse backgrounds for the judiciary. Emphasizing the judiciary's pivotal role, she advocated for a more diverse representation on the bench and bar, asserting that it would enhance the cause of justice.

Her suggestion aimed at expediting the diversification process within the judiciary by introducing a system where judges could be recruited from various backgrounds based on merit, competitiveness, and transparency. She highlighted the significance of this initiative, expressing her interaction with youngsters across universities and institutes, where aspirations to become judicial officers were prevalent.

President Murmu stressed the need for an All-India Judicial Service that identifies and nurtures talented individuals from lower to higher levels in the judiciary. This service would draw from a nationwide talent pool, facilitating opportunities for aspiring judges, especially from less-represented social groups, to contribute to the justice delivery system.

Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud, echoed the importance of technology in the judiciary during his address at the event. He emphasized the judiciary's adoption of technology while ensuring inclusivity through e-Seva Kendra in all courts, aiming to involve citizens in the judicial process rather than creating distance.

The day witnessed tributes paid to Dr. BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, as a 7-foot tall sculpture of him was unveiled on the Supreme Court premises. The event, marking Constitution Day since 2015, commemorates the Constitution's adoption in 1949, replacing Law Day's observance.

President Murmu's proposal for an All-India Judicial Service aims to transform the judiciary by selecting, nurturing, and promoting young talents from diverse backgrounds, reinforcing the values of meritocracy and diversity within India's legal system. Her vision advocates for a more inclusive and representative judiciary, aligning with the aspirations of a just and equitable society.
