In a recent development, the Punjab Police have taken significant steps by registering a murder case related to the unfortunate demise of a farmer, Shubhkaran Singh, during clashes at the Punjab-Haryana border. The incident occurred amidst ongoing protests between farmers and security personnel. Singh, a 21-year-old resident of Bathinda, lost his life during the protests on February 21, triggering widespread concern and demands for justice.

The FIR, filed at the Patran Police station in Patiala, invokes sections 302 (murder) and 114 (abettor present when the offence is committed) of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint was lodged by Shubhkaran's father against an unidentified individual, with the place of occurrence indicated at Garhi in Haryana's Jind district, near Khanauri.

Farmer leaders, including Sarwan Singh Pandher, have been actively involved in addressing the situation. They announced the decision to pause the 'Delhi Chalo' march until February 29, emphasizing the need for justice and legal proceedings following Singh's death. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, along with the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, has been leading the agitation, advocating for various farmer-related demands.
