Punjab Police files murder case following death of farmer activist Shubhkaran Singh during protests

The Punjab Police have registered a murder case following the death of farmer Shubhkaran Singh amidst clashes at the Punjab-Haryana border. Singh, aged 21, lost his life during protests, prompting legal action and a pause in the 'Delhi Chalo' march by farmer leaders.
In
a recent development, the Punjab Police have taken significant steps by
registering a murder case related to the unfortunate demise of a farmer, Shubhkaran
Singh, during clashes at the Punjab-Haryana border. The incident occurred
amidst ongoing protests between farmers and security personnel. Singh, a
21-year-old resident of Bathinda, lost his life during the protests on February
21, triggering widespread concern and demands for justice.
The
FIR, filed at the Patran Police station in Patiala, invokes sections 302
(murder) and 114 (abettor present when the offence is committed) of the Indian
Penal Code. The complaint was lodged by Shubhkaran's father against an
unidentified individual, with the place of occurrence indicated at Garhi in
Haryana's Jind district, near Khanauri.
Farmer leaders, including Sarwan Singh Pandher, have been actively involved in addressing the situation. They announced the decision to pause the 'Delhi Chalo' march until February 29, emphasizing the need for justice and legal proceedings following Singh's death. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, along with the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, has been leading the agitation, advocating for various farmer-related demands.

The
peaceful protests took a violent turn when clashes erupted at the border,
leading to injuries among security personnel and the tragic loss of Shubhkaran

The
situation remains tense as farmer leaders deliberate on the next course of
action, with discussions expected to take place on February 29. Until then,
protesters continue to camp at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points, awaiting
further decisions from the leadership regarding their ongoing agitation.
