After inconclusive Alaska talks, Vladimir Putin invited Donald Trump to Moscow, saying U.S.-Russia summits were long overdue. Trump called the offer an “honour” and said progress was made but no Ukraine deal yet. He plans to brief Zelensky and European leaders, while both sides hinted at continuing negotiations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin extended an invitation to U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Moscow following their high-stakes meeting in Alaska, which ended without a concrete agreement on Ukraine. The 2½-hour talks, held at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, were described as productive but inconclusive.
At the close of their joint press conference, Putin remarked, “Next time in Moscow,” signaling a willingness to continue dialogue. Trump responded warmly, calling it “an interesting honour” while acknowledging the political backlash such a trip might spark. “I can see it possibly happening,” he added.
The summit was the first Russian-American meeting at this level in over four years, a gap Putin described as damaging for bilateral ties. He said relations between the two nations had slipped to their lowest point since the Cold War, warning that prolonged estrangement was bad for both countries and the wider world.
Trump echoed cautious optimism, saying, “There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” but confirmed that progress had been made on several points. He added that he would soon brief Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders on the discussions. One “significant” issue remained unresolved, though Trump declined to elaborate.
Putin, for his part, said an “understanding” had been reached regarding Ukraine and urged Europe not to undermine early progress. While no ceasefire was secured, both leaders struck a cooperative tone, fueling speculation about further summits.

The meeting reinforced Trump’s belief that he could broker a peace deal in Ukraine, though critics argue his approach risks giving Putin symbolic victories without securing concrete commitments. Whether Trump accepts the invitation to Moscow could shape the next stage of U.S.-Russia diplomacy.
