Congress' Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, progresses into West Bengal after the Assam leg. With strategic pauses, the Yatra covers six districts, aiming to bolster Congress-TMC collaboration within the INDIA bloc for the 2024 elections. TMC's abstention adds intrigue to the political dynamics in the region.
In
a dynamic political move, Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat
Jodo Nyay Yatra' made its entry into West Bengal, transitioning from its
successful Assam leg. The Congress leader was warmly received by state Congress
president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury upon arrival in the state. Commencing from Bakshirhat
in Cooch Behar district, the Yatra's symbolic flag handover marked the
beginning of its journey towards Khagrabari Chowk in Cooch Behar.
Scheduled
for a public meeting at Khagrabari Chowk, Rahul Gandhi is set to address the
gathering before the Yatra progresses through Tufanganj and Cooch Behar town. A
padayatra from Maa Bhawani Chowk in Cooch Behar is also included in the
itinerary, adding a ground-level engagement aspect to the political journey.
The Yatra is strategically planned to take a brief hiatus on January 26-27, during which it will rest in Falakata, Alipurduar district, after traveling by bus to Gokshadanga. Resuming its course on January 28, the Yatra will navigate through Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Uttar Dinajpur, and Darjeeling districts, reaching Bihar on January 29.

Re-entering
West Bengal on January 31 via Malda, the Yatra will traverse significant
Congress strongholds such as Murshidabad, concluding its journey in the state
on February 1. Covering a span of 523 km, the Bengal leg of Bharat Jodo Nyay
Yatra spans six districts and six Lok Sabha constituencies over five days,
including Darjeeling, Raigunj, North and South Malda, and two in Murshidabad.
This marks Rahul Gandhi's first visit to the state since the 2021 assembly polls. The Yatra assumes greater significance following Mamata Banerjee's announcement that the Trinamool Congress will independently contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal. Both Congress and TMC, part of the INDIA bloc to challenge the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the 2024 Parliamentary elections, are participating. The CPI (M) and Left parties, aligned with Congress within the state and the INDIA bloc nationally, are expected to join the Yatra, despite TMC's decision to abstain, citing insufficient information.
