You know that the summer has been a long, dry period when you get so excited at the thought of rain, even after a light drizzle. It's like watching a kid after having a sugar rush. Similarly, Bengaluru had a taste of the long-awaited rainfall for the past few days after almost five months without the slightest drop of rain.

The streets of Bengaluru had been long awaited for the rain showers, and the joy of the natives can be compared to the dark clouds that have come to them. People on social media couldn't hide their excitement and were seen sharing videos and snaps of amazing showers with catchphrases such as "It's finally raining in south Bangalore!" and "The rain gods have showered their blessings on a late Saturday afternoon!".

It was the southern parts that got the first flavour, with places such as Bellandur that experienced the first drizzle of the 2024 season after almost 150 days of drought. A particular resident, who can express herself so beautifully, summarized, "It has been since I'm in Bangalore and it's the first time that I probably don't remember rain and here it comes!"

Even the northern neighbourhoods had their share of fun on Friday, but it was not until Saturday that the whole of the city could twirl through the drops of rain. The Indian Meteorology Department has issued heavy rainfall warnings to districts like Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru.

Well, yes, we all know this by now: April showers bring May flowers, or in our case, more showers for another few days, at least across most of Karnataka, as per the weather prophecies. In the meantime, the hot and humid days will be here again from the 25th, with temperatures going up progressively.

So, for now, it is simply that the drought has ended! The city's nonstop thirst has been satisfied, her people have been reborn, and a new start has been made. Only those who have witnessed Bengaluru's cruel summers can truly understand this feeling. It is pouring down in monsoons!
