Upon further evaluation and treatment, doctors at Bangar Hospital diagnosed Thakur with hydrophobia, an intense fear of water caused by an advanced stage of rabies infection.

It is suspected that Thakur may have been bitten by a rabid dog in the past and did not receive proper medical care for it.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sukhram Bishnoi, described Thakur's behavior as that of a mentally ill and aggressive patient. Thakur was admitted to the hospital, where he caused disturbances, leading the nursing staff to restrain him on a bed.

Investigations revealed that Thakur had traveled from Mumbai to Sendra on a bus, confirmed by a ticket found in his possession. Following the incident, Shanti Devi's son, Biren Kathat, filed a police complaint accusing Thakur of murdering his mother and engaging in cannibalism.

Thakur has been charged under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for murder.

Witness Kathat, who encountered the gruesome scene, stated that he saw Thakur consuming the flesh of the deceased woman and fled in fear.

Local residents initially panicked upon encountering Thakur but managed to apprehend him when he attempted to escape, handing him over to the police.

Dr. Praveen from Bangar Hospital explained that Thakur's hydrophobia could be attributed to a previous dog bite, which likely resulted in rabies due to a lack of vaccination.

In a separate incident from last year, known as the Kerala human sacrifice case, two women were sacrificed in Elanthoor village of Pathanamthitta district. The couple involved, Bhagaval Singh and Laila, cooked and consumed the victims' body parts after being deceived by a self-proclaimed sorcerer named Muhammad Shafi, who promised them wealth.
