The newly constructed Ram Temple in Ayodhya has emerged to be structurally flawed to accommodate large crowds following the first test of rainfall after its public opening.

Acharya Satyendra Das, the priest of the temple said that during the rainy night on Saturday, water was dripping from the roof of the inner sanctum. Das raised an eyebrow at the scenario and was quick to say, “It is quite unexpected that engineers from all over the country are constructing the Ram temple… But, nobody thought that when it rains, the roof will become a leakage. ”

The priest also complained that he was neglected in the construction of the temple in that there is no proper drain to take water wherever it falls in the temple compound. He therefore called upon the management of the temple to ensure that appropriate corrective measures were taken.

Subsequent to this the chairman of the temple construction committee Nripendra Mishra personally went to the site and gave directions for repair of roofs which are leaked. Mishra also gave an update on the construction stating that the first floor of the temple is expected to be ready by this July at the latest and that the overall construction should be complete by December at the latest.

The heavy rainfall also brought to light some structural problems that exist in the surrounding region. The situation was most pathetic in the Rampath road and the nearby lanes where there was serious waterlogging that even made sewer water penetrate houses and newly constructed roads in some parts of the city caved in. Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi confirmed the issue and stated that he had deployed the relevant municipal teams for the removal of the graffiti.

This has given rise to political tension and for this reason the Congress party has accused the BJP in charge of corruption in the construction and development of the temple in Ayodhya as well as other civic amenities. Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai accused the BJP of turning Ayodhya into a “den of corruption” for hurrying substandard constructions in order to capture votes.

As the situation remains uncertain, people are starting to question the quality of construction and planning in this large-scale project which was launched on January 22, 2024, with great success.
