In a groundbreaking move, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a subsidiary of Jio Platforms Limited, has introduced "Jio SpaceFiber," marking India's foray into satellite-based gigafiber internet services. This monumental announcement took place during the India Mobile Congress 2023, held in New Delhi, where Chairman Akash Ambani unveiled this innovative service in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jio, which already serves over 450 million consumers with high-speed broadband through its JioFiber and JioAirFiber services, aims to accelerate digital inclusion across every Indian household. Jio SpaceFiber is set to play a pivotal role in this mission by offering high-speed broadband connectivity to previously underserved regions nationwide, all at highly competitive rates.

The technology behind Jio SpaceFiber is made possible through a partnership with SES, a global leader in medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology. Leveraging SES's O3b and new O3b mPOWER satellites, Jio becomes the exclusive provider of this advanced technology, promising scalable and cost-effective broadband access across the entire country. This initiative aims to set new industry standards for reliability and service flexibility.

As of now, Jio SpaceFiber is operational in four remote areas of India, namely Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chattisgarh, Nabarangpur in Odisha, and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam. Akash Ambani highlighted how Jio's efforts have already brought broadband internet to millions of Indian households and businesses, and with Jio SpaceFiber, their reach will extend to countless more. The service promises gigabit-speed access to essential online services, such as government, education, health, and entertainment, ensuring universal access for individuals and communities as they embrace the digital era.

Furthermore, Jio SpaceFiber is committed to delivering reliable, low-latency, high-speed internet and entertainment services, regardless of location. The satellite network will also bolster mobile backhaul capacity, which is particularly crucial for the expansion of Jio True5G, especially in remote areas across the country. With Jio SpaceFiber, Reliance Jio is poised to revolutionize internet access in India, bridging the digital divide and opening new doors of opportunity for all.
