Suniel Shetty expressed his
concern regarding the escalating tomato prices. In a recent interview, the
actor, who is not only known for his on-screen performances but also as a
restaurateur, mentioned the compromises he has been compelled to make when
purchasing tomatoes due to the price surge. Additionally, Shetty shared that he
cultivates a variety of fruits and vegetables at his Khandala farmhouse.
In the beginning of the previous year, Suniel Shetty provided a sneak peek into his Khandala residence named Jahaan, located near Mumbai. He specifically highlighted the dining area, considering it as one of his preferred spaces and mentioning that it holds a special place in the hearts of Mangaloreans, as they thoroughly enjoy indulging in delicious meals.
During an interview with Aaj Tak, Suniel Shetty expressed in Hindi, "My wife Mana prefers purchasing vegetables for just one or two days as we value consuming fresh produce. However, the soaring prices of tomatoes have become a cause of concern in our kitchen. Consequently, I have reduced my tomato consumption. Some might assume that as a superstar, I remain unaffected by such matters, but that is far from the truth. We also have to navigate through these challenges."
Suniel Shetty also highlighted his preference for buying fruits and vegetables through a mobile app while expressing his concerns about the surging tomato prices. He emphasized, "If you observe the prices on these apps, you'll be astonished. They are more economical compared to local shops and markets. I choose to order from the app not just because of affordability, but because they offer fresh produce." Being a restaurateur himself, Shetty recognized the importance of negotiating the best prices, but the escalating tomato prices have compelled people to compromise on taste and quality, including himself.
According to vendors, tomato
prices in the retail market this week ranged between ₹120 and ₹150 per
kilogram. This price is nearly 15 times higher than what it was in the first
week of May, when tomatoes were being sold at ₹10 per kilogram.
