A school teacher was killed after a roof of the Government Senior Secondary School in Ludhiana's Baddowal village collapsed on Wednesday.
This unfortunate event resulted in the loss of one teacher's life, while another sustained injuries. Fortunately, all four teachers who were initially trapped under the debris have been successfully rescued following the incident.
Ravinder Kaur and Narenderpal Kaur, both English teachers, were present inside the school's staff room when all of a sudden the roof fell down. Unfortunately, two other teachers were also injured and had to be immediately taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Ravinder Kaur, who resided in BRS Nagar's Housing Board Colony, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Despite the tragic incident, several students who were inside the school premises at the time were all successfully rescued without harm.
The Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana, Surabhi Malik, who spoke to reporters, informed, "Verification is currently underway. Medical tests and a comprehensive assessment of the situation take time."
She assured the people that she had already initiated a magisterial inquiry into the matter. Malik further revealed, "We will form a proper team to look into the incident to find out why this happened and how it happened. We will submit a report to the government.”
According to information obtained by the Hindustan Times, the construction of the school's building is quite old, dating back to 1960. At the time of the tragic incident, repair work was being carried out on the second floor of the building.
Unfortunately, during these renovations, a cement slab from the second floor fell onto the first floor, causing the roof of the staff room to collapse.
Following the incident, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and police units promptly arrived at the scene. The police personnel present on the scene were engaged in managing the crowd, working to disperse the onlookers that had gathered around the school premises.
