S Jaishankar Highlights Middle East Conflicts, UNSC Reforms at BRICS Summit

At the BRICS Summit, S Jaishankar raised concerns over Middle East conflicts and pushed for UNSC reforms. He advocated for dialogue and diplomacy, emphasized the need for a two-state solution, and outlined steps to create a more equitable global order, including strengthening independent platforms and democratizing the global economy.
During the 16th BRICS Summit, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the pressing conflicts in the Middle East and called for reforms in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Speaking at the BRICS Plus Outreach Session in Kazan, Russia, Jaishankar expressed concerns over the potential spread of conflict in the region and emphasized the importance of a fair and durable resolution, advocating for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Jaishankar echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message that "this is not an era of war" and stressed the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve disputes. He also underlined the importance of respecting international law and countering terrorism. Highlighting the economic consequences of the ongoing conflict, Jaishankar noted how maritime trade in the region has been severely impacted and warned of the serious human and material costs of further escalation.
In addition to discussing Middle East conflicts, Jaishankar elaborated on broader measures to create a more equitable global order. He underscored the need for strengthening independent platforms like BRICS, reforming established institutions like the UNSC, and democratizing the global economy by creating more production hubs. He also called for correcting infrastructure distortions inherited from the colonial era and enhancing global connectivity to reduce risks.

Jaishankar concluded by addressing the growing complexity of long-standing global issues, emphasizing the importance of multi-polarity and the emergence of new capabilities that have accelerated global socio-economic progress.
