Sadiq Khan secured a historic 3rd term as London Mayor, leading Labour to a resounding victory in local polls that devastated PM Rishi Sunak's Conservatives ahead of national elections.
A landslide victory has been given to the Labour Party and Sadiq Khan has been re-elected as London's Mayor on Saturday giving him the honour of being the first person to retain his position for three terms in a row. The outcome of the by-election and the national trends was a huge blow to the credit of Sunak's Conservative Party, as the Labour Party won a majority of seats in the local elections.
This indicates the Labour Party's dominating lead which it has over the conservatives in the UK General Elections of this year. 53-year-old Khan with the issues of knife crime and the politically controversial Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) charging scheme, only to get 43.8% of the vote and win against the Conservatives' candidate Susan Hall who got 33%.
"I know the capital city has received a Tory government for the past eight years, and the populace is now ready to be governed again under Keir Starmer, so it's time that Rishi Sunak provides the public with a choice, " is what Khan said in his victory speech.
By the local election results, is it so obvious that the Labour’s policies triumphed and the Conservatives’ leadership under Sunak’s administration has been inadequate. The polls prior to the next general election show that Labour, who are led by Keir Starmer, is most likely to have victory, and it will possibly put an end to the 14-year reign of the Conservatives in the UK.
Khan has pledged to work together with a future Labour government to tackle the housing shortage and the problem of the lack of police officers numbers. Although his winning was anticipated, not many knew the Labour Party would be the ones who would sweep the local elections with so much ease.

As expected, the ULEZ was meant to lure the Conservatives into public disgruntlement, but the campaign failed because of a string of blunders and accusations of racism against the candidate, Susan Hall.
Following the conclusion of the local elections, the national arena is now ready; an area where Starmer's Labour Party is most likely to reap rewards from the voters who are unsatisfied with the Conservatives' government record.
