Due to heavy rains predicted by the India Meteorological Department, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin declared holidays for schools and colleges in multiple districts. IT employees have been advised to work from home, and red and orange alerts have been issued in various parts of the state. The government is closely monitoring the situation and taking preventive measures.
Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin has declared a holiday for schools and colleges across multiple districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu, due to torrential rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days as the northeast monsoon sets in.
In response to the heavy rain forecast, Stalin has advised IT companies in these districts to allow employees to work from home between October 15 and 18. Significant waterlogging has already been reported in Tiruvallur, particularly in the Ponneri railway subway, following intense rain on the night of October 14.
Both MK Stalin and deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin have been actively assessing the damage caused by the rain. MK Stalin visited affected areas in Tiruvallur, while Udhayanidhi Stalin surveyed lakes and canals in Chennai, which remains under a red alert for potential flooding.
Chennai residents have been taking precautionary measures, such as parking vehicles on the Velachery flyover to prevent damage from the flooding. Additionally, Chennai Metro Rail Services has increased the frequency of trains to support commuters during this period of heavy rainfall.
