Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has urgently appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for immediate assistance in addressing the aftermath of devastating floods wreaking havoc in the southern districts. Seeking Rs 2,000 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF), Stalin emphasized the dire need for swift support to facilitate livelihood assistance and temporary rehabilitation efforts.

In a memorandum submitted to PM Modi in Delhi, Stalin outlined the critical situation brought upon by Cyclone Michaung, resulting in unprecedented rainfall not witnessed in almost five decades. The Chief Minister stressed the urgency of the situation, specifically in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, and Tenkasi, heavily impacted by the floods.

Expressing gratitude for the attention given to Tamil Nadu's distress during these challenging times, Stalin shared details of his meeting with PM Modi on social media platform X. He reiterated the pressing need for immediate relief in the flood-affected areas, highlighting the ongoing efforts in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts despite challenges in rescue operations due to flooded roads hindering relief material distribution.

Stalin underscored the commendation received for the swift response in conducting rescue and relief work, acknowledging the challenges faced and emphasizing the urgent requirement for allocated funds to expedite the repair and recovery process.

Approximately 40 lakh individuals have been severely affected by heavy rains and the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung in the southern districts, amplifying the urgency for aid. Notably, towns like Srivaikuntam and Thoothukudi faced alarming situations due to the flooding of the Thamirabarani River. Ongoing relief efforts involve the State Disaster Response Force, National Disaster Response Force teams, and various officers deploying helicopters to deliver aid in areas with inundated roads.
