Seven newborns died in a tragic fire at a children's hospital in Delhi, sparking a political blame game between the ruling AAP and opposition BJP over safety lapses.
A major fire broke out in a children’s hospital, Vivek Vihar in East Delhi on Saturday night for which at least seven newborns lost their lives and it created political furore about who is to be blamed for this disaster.
The blaze broke out around 11:17:30 pm in Baby Care New Born Hospital. A fire outbreak was reported and the Delhi Fire Services responded with nine tenders following a panic call. The fire performers tried to put off the flames as the fire was fanned by the oxygen cylinders that were in the hospital.
In particular, the fire occurred in a building that had 12 newborns who had to be rescued from the burning house. Unfortunately, seven of them did not make it through to the next stage of the game. The other five infants were taken to another hospital for treatment.
The gruesome incident surfaced and came to light on Sunday morning and the political leaders of AAP and BJP, the two rival parties in Delhi, blamed each other for the violence.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva went to the site and said that the “administration should come forward to assist the families who have lost their people and the occurrence should be investigated and the guilty punished”.
The AAP Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that he got details of the fatal fire only through the newspapers Sunday morning. He demanded a “quick inquiry” to establish procedural lapse, “Anyone guilty will not go scot-free,” he remarked, adding “The strictest punishment will be administered on any official proven negligent or involved in any wrongdoing. ”
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also promised that ‘Culprits will not be spared” while also stating “Strictest punishment will be ensured for those found negligent.
At the same time, the Delhi Police have registered a case against the proprietor of the hospital, Naveen Chinchi who is on the run to date. They are still probing to establish whether the hospital had undergone the legal requirements of fire safety clearance.
