Shaheen Afridi created history in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. On
Tuesday, October 31, during Match No. 31 in Kolkata, he broke Mitchell Starc's
ODI world record, leaving behind star bowlers like Shami and Bumrah.
After a series of fluctuating performances, Pakistan's
pace attack came alive when it mattered most, rattling Bangladesh with three
wickets in the powerplay. Shaheen Afridi played a pivotal role, dismissing
Tanzid Tamim and Najmul Hossain Shanto in consecutive overs. Pakistan found
themselves in a precarious position at 6/2.
Shaheen Afridi, who had been consistently taking wickets but lacked consistency, reached a significant milestone. He achieved the feat of 100 ODI wickets in the very first over of the match. Remarkably, he became the third-fastest bowler to achieve this milestone and, notably, the fastest pacer. His achievement outshone Australia's Mitchell Starc, who took 52 matches to reach this feat. Shaheen achieved this remarkable record in just 51 matches, making history in the world of cricket. He also surpassed India's Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, reaching the milestone four and five games faster, respectively.

Haris Rauf, following in Shaheen's footsteps, further dismantled Bangladesh's batting lineup, reducing them to 23/3 by dismissing experienced Mushfiqur Rahim. This breakthrough came after Bangladesh's skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, chose to bat first. As the tournament progresses, Pakistan aims to secure a substantial victory to remain in contention, while Bangladesh faces the risk of official elimination with a loss. Shaheen Afridi's historic achievement has undoubtedly redefined the dynamics of the Cricket World Cup.
