Southern States Opposed FSSAI Instruction:-
A notification was issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India on 11 January to Labelcurd as “dahi” too all over the country, The authority asked agencies belonging to Karnataka or Tamil Nadu to label the curd as “dahi” instead of their regional word like “thayir” or “mosaru.”
The instruction was not welcomed by the states, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that it was “unabashed Hindi imposition” and warned that such instruction which is a “brazen disregard to our mother tongue” will lead to banishment from South Forever.
Some others like an IPS Officer of Karnataka and BJP chief K Annamalai from Tamil Nadu also had the same views and asked FSSAI to change the instructions.
On Thursday, FSSAI issued the revised guidelines and said, the business operators are free to use “curd” along with Any appropriate regional name.
The decision was heartfeltly welcomed by the states.
